Introduction
Until recently green mortgages were a niche form of home finance, but they are fast entering the mainstream as major high-street lenders launch their green mortgage offerings.
New government initiatives, including updates to its Green Finance Strategy, aim to kickstart the green home finance market, with an emphasis on improving the energy efficiency of homes.
Consumer behaviour is shifting to demand socially responsible and sustainable finance. In response, an increasing number of financial services firms are aligning their products with environmental, social and governance (‘ESG’) considerations, which presents new challenges such as the risk of ‘greenwashing’.
As regulators flag concerns about the financial sector’s exposure to climate risk, research from the Bank of England indicates that mortgage borrowers in green homes are at lower risk of defaulting.
This webinar is suitable for financial services lawyers, conveyancers, and mortgage intermediaries.
