Introduction
LNG is a key transition fuel for the world as we collectively try to meet various emissions and greenhouse gases targets.
It has around 30% to 50% less CO2 and limited sulphur compared to other fossil fuels.
Many countries are therefore starting to heavily rely on LNG as a primary energy source.
Transportation of LNG via sea (opposed to shore pipes) has seen increased importance following the outbreak of the Ukraine crisis and reluctance to rely on Russian energy.
There is accordingly an all-time high demand for LNG ships, with many traders entering what was historically a market dominated by oil majors and state energy companies.
Charterparties for LNG ships tend to be more complex than other sectors.
An understanding of these complexities, and some of their unique concepts, is important for anyone involved in the transportation of LNG via ship.
