Introduction

Inclusive design is a key policy requirement in the planning system.

The National Planning Policy Framework includes an overarching ambition to create well-designed, beautiful and safe places. It also provides that design policies should be developed with local communities, so they reflect local aspirations. Local design codes are being piloted by 14 councils and neighbourhood planning groups, landowners and developers have been an important role in guiding the design process.

This virtual classroom seminar considers the progress made to date to embed inclusive design into development and the challenges faced by those who are charged with making these policy aims a reality.
